#USAWorldSBK: Thursday Photo Extra
The buildup for the hottest motorcycle race of the summer has finally culminated for the start of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round with MotoAmerica!
The week has been full of activity since the crates from the WorldSBK teams that raced at Donington Park in England last Sunday arrived to the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca paddock on Tuesday night. The five classes of the MotoAmerica series filtered in afterward to give fans over 150 motorcycles attempting to tame the undulating 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course.
Festivities kicked off with a media promotion at another legendary venue — Pebble Beach Golf Links. An absolutely gorgeous day at the home of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and this year’s U.S. Open set a breathtaking scene for the long drive competition on the 18th hole between Leon Haslam and brothers Alex and Sam Lowes on the international side and teammates Cameron Beaubier and Garret Gerloff, Cameron Petersen and Kyle Wyman for MotoAmerica.
Teams got the lay of the land on Thursday with a track familiarization walk where many took their annual opportunity to make creative poses atop the one-of-a-kind Corkscrew turn, an esse that descends nearly six stories in a span of only 180 feet.
Afterwards, riders mingled with fans at the Cycle Gear store in San Jose in anticipation of a fun-filled and thrilling three-day event on July 12-14.
