Momentum for the Spring Classic Showcasing Nitro Revival May 18-20 is in full swing with a large contingent of drag racing personalities set to participate in the Nitro Revival activities. Among them are 32 members of the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Nitro Revival provides a new element this year to the three-day Spring Classic vintage car race and historic motorcycle exhibition in what will be a celebration of motorsports from the 1960s through more recent eras. The event can boast having vehicles ranging from Don Garlits’ Swamp Rat III Top Fuel dragster to the Arfons brother’s Green Monster dragster with an Allison V-12 aircraft engine to the SunTrust 2006 Riley Daytona Prototype campaigned by Wayne Taylor Racing to Chevy stock cars originally driven by Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson to various Trans-Am, Can-Am, sports car, and motorcycle entries all in the same paddock.

Nitro Revival activities at the track will be highlighted on Saturday, May 19, with push-start demonstrations on hot pit lane between the two races contested among the vintage car run groups. The “Line of Fire” mass fire-up will conclude the day with 40 restored nitro-burning dragsters, altereds, and Funny Cars coming to life in a symphony of combustion with flames dancing out of the header pipes. The activity will be centered around a hospitality area in the paddock presented by Champion Speed Shop and the Jim McLennan Foundation.

Pre-1973 street rods, customs, and classics will congregate in the paddock on Saturday as part of Ace’s Hot Rod Hangout, a special ticket package that provides premium parking, admission, and participation in a parade lap around the iconic 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course.

The Nitro Revival festivities include “Nitro Night,” an off-site event at InterContinental® The Clement Monterey® on Friday, May 18, at 5-7:30 p.m. Swamp Rat III and Tom Hoover’s “Fishbowl” dragster will be in the courtyard area while members of the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame sign autographs and take part in a “Hall of Flame” Q&A discussion with Dunn serving as emcee.
